In addition to being a destination for breaking news, entertainment coverage and all-things women’s lifestyle, Refinery29 is a Webby-winning fashion authority with our very own shopping feature.
After recent rounds of user testing, it came to our team’s attention that the majority of our users were overwhelmed by our filtering experience since all filters were present on one screen at the same time, in addition to a list of other issues.
Problem Statements
It is unintuitive and tedious to filter products
Filtering is not optimized for mobile, which is ~40% of revenue in Skimlinks

Competitive Analysis
After understanding our current shopping experience on mobile, we began our analysis of R29’s competitors as well as other companies in different verticals. With our research, we were able to identify key trends and features that we wanted to incorporate into our mobile shopping experience.
Project Goal
Make it easier for our users to filter and edit their product selections in the R29 Shop.
As Lead Designer for the Shopping Filter redesign, my job was to synthesize our user findings and come up with a new flow that allowed users to seamlessly filter products and categories for an efficient and enjoyable shopping experience.
